Pak efforts to eliminate terror not enough: Boucher
New Delhi, January 9 (ANI): U.S. Assistant Secretary of State, Richard Boucher said that Pakistan has made a promising start but it has still a long way to go to eliminate terror threat from its soil. Steps taken so far are not enough. He arrived in New Delhi on Thursday to discuss the progress of investigations into the Mumbai attacks and douse tensions sparked by sharp exchanges between India and Pakistan.

Anti-Israel protests mount across Asia and the Pacific
Manila/ Dhaka/ Auckland/ Kabul,January 8 (ANI):Protesters in Manila, Dhaka, Auckland and Kabul took to the streets on Thursday, demanding a halt to Israeli bombing in the Gaza Strip. Rain did not stop Filipino Muslims and human rights activists from marching to the Israeli Embassy in Manila carrying banners,a mock corpse and a giant shoe, to protest against the continued strikes in Gaza.Muslims from the People's Solidarity Action for Peace or PSAP called Israel's actions genocide, citing 680 Palestinians killed and at least 2,000 wounded within 12 days of fighting.

India hints at restoring nuclear commerce with Canada
New Delhi,January 8 (ANI):India's special envoy of the Prime Minister,Shyam Saran on Thursday hinted at restoring nuclear commerce with Canada.India and Canada have had longstanding nuclear bilateral ties and nuclear fuel starved India seems to be keen on rebuilding on these ties.The Atomic Energy of Canada has been negotiating to re-enter the Indian market despite the fact that India has not signed the international nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Gunman shoots editor of Sri Lankan opposition paper
Colombo, January 8 (ANI):The Chief Editor of the major Sri Lankan newspaper, the Sunday Leader was attacked on Thursday.Lasantha Wickramatunga was in a car on his way to work when a masked gunman shot him. According to Wickramatunga's brother, Lal, the gunman smashed the window of the vehicle and then fired. Doctors said Wickramatunga was in critical condition.A crowd gathered around the hospital as he was resuscitated before being transferred to the trauma unit at Colombo National Hospital.

India wants Pakistan to act on the evidence provided: Pranab
Chennai, January 9 (ANI): India has urged Pakistan to examine and act on the evidence provided by it to help carry forward the investigations, instead of rejecting it out of hand. Indian foreign minister Pranab Mukherjee had said earlier, that he hoped that Pakistan would act fast. This followed Pakistan's admission that Mohammed Ajmal Kasab, was a Pakistani national. Pranab Mukherjee said this while addressing the delegates during the seventh Pravasi Bhartiya Divas.

Muslims in India participate in Muharram processions
Faizabad/Gwalior,January 8 (ANI):The Shi'ite Muslims of India took part in processions to observe Muharram in Faizabad on Wednesday night.The procession marks the death anniversary of Imam Hussain, a grandson of the Prophet Mohammad,who was killed in a battle with political rival Yazid at Kerbala in Iraq in AD 680.The mourners beat themselves with shackles to mourn the death of Imam Hussain.The mourners flogging themselves or beating their chests in the processions traditionally mark the day.

Pak should own up perpetrators' nationality: Sharma
New Delhi, January 8 (ANI): Indias junior foreign minister, Anand Sharma on Wednesday again urged Pakistan to honour its assurances and own the nationality of the perpetrators responsible for Mumbai terror attack. Sharma reiterated that joint cooperation will be significant only if Pakistan comes out of the state of denial. Earlier this week, India had presented a dossier of material to Pakistan which indicated that Pakistani militants had carried out the November attacks in Mumbai.

Verifying facts of Satyam case: Prem Chand Gupta
New Delhi,January 7 (ANI):Indian government on Wednesday said that it is verifying the facts after the chairman of Satyam Computer Services resigned admitting discrepancies in the company's balance sheet as on September 30,2008.India's central minister for company affairs told reporters that the contents of the message would be verified and proper action would be taken.Secretary General of the FICCI added that the systematic failure might not spread to other companies.
