Free heating oil from Chavez
CARACAS, Venezuela — The Venezuelan government reversed course on Wednesday, announcing that its U.S. oil subsidiary will continue to provide free home heating oil to poor Americans. Critics of President Hugo Chavez had pummeled him for suspending a program that he had milked for its maximum publicity as a champion of the poor, even in the U.S. In the wake of Monday's announcement of the program's suspension, analysts had predicted this was only the first of Chavez's ambitious foreign assistance programs that would disappear, given the sharp drop in oil prices and the Venezuelan government's dependence on oil export income. Venezuelan government officials wasted no time in reinstating the program, which saved about 180,000 U.S. households around $260 apiece in 2008. That covered about one month's heating bill. Among the beneficiaries of the 100 gallons of heating oil were 65 Indian tribes, including those in Alaska , Montana and South Dakota . Alejandro Granado , the chairman, president and chief executive officer of Citgo Petroleum, the Venezuelan government's Houston -based oil subsidiary, said he discussed the plan to renew the program with Chavez on Wednesday morning. The decision "is the result of a strong commitment and a big effort on the part of Citgo and our shareholder in light of the current global financial crisis and its impact on the oil industry in general," Granado said in a statement. Venezuelan oil, which is a lower grade than conventional crude and trades at a lower price, peaked at $126 a barrel in July and now sells for about $40 a barrel. About 93 percent of Venezuela's export revenue comes from oil sales, mostly to the U.S. Granado made his statement in Boston alongside Joseph P. Kennedy II , who's the chairman of Citizens Energy Corp. , the Massachusetts -based nonprofit that manages the program. Night time demonstration outside the BBC in protest of the bombing of Palestine. We live in hope that the fighting will stop and a peace deal will be worked out. This from the BBC: Israel has agreed "on the principles" of a Franco-Egyptian truce proposal, raising hopes of an end to its conflict with Palestinian militants in Gaza. "The challenge now is to get the details to match the principles," Israeli spokesman Mark Regev said while Hamas detected "positive signs". Israel has resumed its bombardment of Gaza in a 12-day offensive which is said to have claimed nearly 700 lives. The UN Security Council seems deadlocked over the crisis. Arab countries want the Council to vote on a resolution calling for a ceasefire while Britain, France and the US are pushing for a weaker statement welcoming the Franco-Egyptian initiative. The US could well veto any vote as it is a permanent member of the Security Council, the BBC's Laura Trevelyan reports. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said the US supported the Franco-Egyptian initiative and that she had spoken to Arab ministers and the Israelis about moving forward on it. She added that the US did not want a ceasefire that would return Israel and the Palestinians to the "status quo" preceding the conflict. Palestinian health officials say at least 683 Palestinians have been killed and more than 3,085 injured since Israel began its offensive 12 days ago, according to the UN's humanitarian agency. Smuggling Israel and Hamas have been under pressure to accept a diplomatic solution to the conflict, which began on 27 December. Israel wants to stop rocket attacks on southern Israel and to stop Hamas smuggling weapons into Gaza via Egypt, while Hamas says any ceasefire deal must include an end to Israel's blockade of Gaza. rebuilt 305 small block Chevy FOR SALE
this I just rebuilt 305ci Small Block Chevy out of a 1984 chevy 1/2 ton pickup truck. This motor is for sale I am asking $1400. Price is negotiable. The engine was completely disassembled and all parts where cleaned. I replaced the rear main seals, main bearings, rod bearings, oil pan gasket, piston rings, timing set, head gaskets, valve stem seals, valve cover gasket, carburetor, exhaust manifolds (with headers), intake manifold, water pump, fuel pump, thermostat, and a couple of other things but thats most of the major stuff. THE ENGINE TEST STAND AND RADIATOR DO NOT COME WITH THE ENGINE. I am only selling the engine with carb, headers, and starter, and so on.
