Actor Patrick Swayze talks with Barbara Walters about his struggles as he battles cancer. | [ JANUARY 2009 ] Patrick Swayze Fights Cancer With Wife's Support: Exclusive Interview: Swayze Tells Barbara Walters He Will Live, Not 'Chase Staying Alive' ... Patrick Swayze has been aggressively fighting stage 4 pancreatic cancer for the last year but said he hasn't let the battle take over his life. "One thing I'm not gonna do is chase staying alive," Swayze told Barbara Walters in his first interview since the diagnosis last year. "You spend so much time chasing staying alive, you won't live." The 56-year-old-actor, beloved for his role in the film "Dirty Dancing," said he and wife Lisa Niemi still find time to dance together. And a few months ago, on the spur of the moment, they decided to renew their vows. "We did it very Prince Charming and Snow White. I rode in on a snorting steed, [a] white stallion" Swayze recalled. "It was like a fairy tale," Niemi said. "One of the happiest days ever." In addition to traditional cancer treatments, Swayze has taken some "specific immune system Chinese herbs," but says he hasn't tried many alternative therapies because he learned that if "you feed your body, you feed the insatiable voracious appetite of the cancer." The chemotherapy did not make Swayze lose his hair. "I kind of lucked out," he said. Swayze said that in the year since his diagnosis, he had defied the statistics and "trash magazines" that predicted he should have "already been dead a long time," but he acknowledged that time may be running out. "I'd say five years is pretty wishful thinking," he told Walters. "Two years seems likely if you're going to believe statistics. I want to last until they find a cure, which means I'd better get a fire under it." ohmygosh guys!! im so sorry i never had a chance to post during break.. life got even more crazy! so i dont think i will put songs in each video. just ones i have a song that fits the chapter. oh and thanks for subscribing! i have 70 subs!! you rock =) -joe's p.o.v- i was sitting in our bus when callie pretty much attacked me. before i knew it, i was laying on my back on the couch i was just sitting on. she was on my stomach, laughing at what she had just accomplished. "you think youre funny, huh?" she grinned. "yes, i do." she fell off of me to the inside of the couch and put her head on my shoulder. her finger was tracing my chest, following the designs on my shirt. "you look beautiful," i told her. i played with her hair, wrapping it around my finger. its finally how its supposed to be, me and my girl. i am going to miss this. "you will survive," she said, as if she was reading my thoughts. "i know. you will too." she moved so she could look up at me. "i'm so glad i have you to come home to." she kissed my lips, then lingered there, so close to my face i could feel her breath on my lips. "i miss you already," she breathed. i kissed her forehead, just as kevin came on the bus. "oh, sorry to ruin the moment, but i think we have to go, and so do you." i wanted it to stay like this. i didnt want her to move an inch, but she did. or she tried anyways. she was having a little bit of trouble, because she was somewhat squished between me and the inside of the couch. i gave her a little push and she rolled over on top of me, knocking the breath right out of me. "oh!" i said, gasping for the air that i had just lost. she started giggling. "did i hurt you? im sorry." she kissed me, soft but quick, since kevin was watching. "better?" i tickled her. "much."
