Mendelssohn - Venetian Boat Song No 2 (Op 30, No 6)
Piano Classics, Book No. 2 - Page 180 & 181 Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy (born Hamburg February 3 1809; died Leipzig November 4 1847) was a German composer. He was one of the great composers of the Romantic period. He loved the music of earlier composers like Bach, Handel and Mozart and he built on the traditions they had made. Mendelssohn was a child prodigy. He was already composing great music when he was a teenager. He wrote music for orchestra, chamber music and music for the piano and organ as well as music for singing. His violin concerto is one of the most popular concertos ever written and is played by all the famous violinists. Two of his tunes are known by almost everybody: the hymn tune Hark the Herald Angels Sing, and the Wedding March which is played so often at the end of weddings. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This Venetian Boat Song is from Mendelssohn's 'Lieder ohne Worte' (Songs without Words), which is a series of eight books each consisting of six 'songs', written for the solo piano. The eight volumes of Songs without Words were written at various points throughout Mendelssohn's life, (two of the volumes being published posthumously). The piano became increasingly popular in Europe during this era, where it became the focal point of many middle-class households. The pieces are within the grasp of pianists of various abilities and this undoubtedly contributed to their popularity. This great popularity has caused many critics to under-rate their musical value.

http://www.siavashian.blogspot.com Es war bestimmt das Lieblingslied aller Soldaten des Zweiten Weltkriegs. Lili Marleen wurde die inoffizielle Hymne der Soldaten an sämtlichen Fronten. Der Urtext dieses Liedes, "das Lied eines jungen Soldaten auf der Wacht" stammt von Hans Leip, einem deutschen Soldaten des ersten Weltkriegs. Hans Leip ist am 22. 09. 1893 in Hamburg geboren und starb am 6. 06. 1983 in Fruthwilen, bei Frauenfeld (Thurgau), Schweiz. Er schrieb diese Strophen 1915 vor seiner Abfahrt an die russische Front. Dabei kombinierte er den Namen seiner Freundin Lili (Tochter seines Lebensmittelhändlers), mit jenem der Freundin eines seiner Freunde. Es besteht auch die Möglichkeit, daß er sich von Marleen, einer jungen Krankenschwester, die, als er Wache schob, an ihm vorbeiging und langsam im Abendnebel verschwand, inspirieren ließ. Dieses Gedicht wurde später in seiner Poesiesammlung 1937 veröffentlicht. 1. Other Beatles related movie, focused on the band's world-wide famous leader: John Winston Lennon. A really touching film that shows all the troubles and experienced he had at school and inside his own family and what induced him to do things that not only changed his own life but also the world. A well done film, good actors and a wonderful look into John's life, almost an obligated film for any Beatles fan.
