Wild turkeys are extremely wary. I built a new soft surface feeder for the turkeys. For 10 minutes before I started this video a solitary hen was pacing, agitated, examining all the angles. Will she bite? Or will she chicken out? Alfred Hitchcock could not have been more suspenseful.

Grote brand boven café La Strada in Goes
GOES - Een grote uitslaande brand heeft vanmiddag veel schade veroorzaakt in de bovenverdieping van café La Strada aan de Sint-Jacobstraat in de Goese binnenstad. De bovenverdieping en waarschijnlijk ook het café eronder moeten als verloren worden beschouwd. Bij de brand is niemand gewond geraakt. Even na 15.00 uur kwam de eerste melding van de brand. De Goese brandweer rukte direct met groot materieel uit. Tot verbazing van de vele omstanders duurde het behoorlijk lang voordat de brandweer met blussen begon. Officier van dienst Jeroen Brussé verklaarde daarover: "Het ging om een complexe situatie. Je kunt dan beter eerst een goede aanvalstactiek bepalen." De vlammen sloegen op een gegeven moment uit de kap van de bovenverdieping. Boven de Goese binnenstad vormde zich een grote zwarte rookwolk. De brandweer slaagde erin het vuur binnen een klein uur, omstreeks 16.00 uur, onder controle te krijgen. Op de bovenverdieping woonden drie huurders. Eén van hen was thuis. Zij heeft zichzelf in veiligheid kunnen brengen. Over de oorzaak van de brand is nog niets bekend. Uit veiligheidsoverwegingen is de wijde omtrek van het café, onder meer de winkelstraat Oude Vismarkt tussen de Grote Markt en de Oostwal, afgesloten.

These two turkey hens and their 14 poults showed up at our place on June 12, 2008 and returned 6 days later making the same trip around the house. It was amazing to watch the mother hens teach the poults what to do. Notice one hen leading and one following up.
