UCI HSSoE Commencement Speech 2008
Here's the graduation (commencement) speech I gave at my graduation ceremony. Henry Samueli School of Engineering, University of California Irvine. Friday June 13, 2008. Bren Events Center. Ignore the crying baby in the middle. He was clearly moved to tears by the shear awesomeness of my words... Thanks to my friend Lavonne for filming!

THE FONZ - THE BATS HERO! - HAPPY DAYS
Happy Days was a popular American television sitcom that aired between 1974 and 1984. It showed an idealized window on life in 1950s America. It revolved around the lives of its principal characters: high school student Richie Cunningham (played by Ron Howard) and his parents (Tom Bosley[?] and Marion Ross[?]), Arthur "Fonzie" / "the Fonze" Fonzarelli (Henry Winkler[?]), Ralph Malph (Don Most[?]), Potsi Webber (Anson Williams[?]), Al the diner cook (Al Molinaro[?]), and as time went by, various other relations and their girlfriends, including, most notably, a recurring role for Suzi Quatro as Leather Tuscadero. The show eventually spawned a short-lived spin-off show about Richie's younger sister Joanie and Fonzie's younger cousin Chachi, called (predictably enough) "Joanie loves Chachi". Robin Williams made his first appearance as "Mork" on Happy Days. The show underwent several changes over the years. There was originally an older Cunningham brother, who went away to college and disappeared from the show. Fonzie, perhaps best described as a hood with a heart of gold, was originally a minor character, but the show focused increasingly on him over time. Happy Days was entertaining for not being totally comedic. Like all great art, it often revealed important truths about timeless human conditions such as friendship, courage, sacrifice, love, loyalty, etc. Its characters not only dreamed of growth but succeeded despite their unique and interesting limitations. They also knew failure and loss. Many viewers found the characters easy to relate to. For people who found Shakespeare daunting, Happy Days provided many of the same lessons in an easier-to-digest form. The show originated during a period of 1950s nostalgia in film, television, and music. Happy Days owed much to George Lucas's 1973 film American Graffiti which also starred Ron Howard, in a very similar role. The spinoff show Laverne and Shirley also took place in the same time period. Howard, who had...

GEORGE McCRAE - It's Been So Long
"IT's BEEN SO LONG" - Released 1975. GEORGE McCRAE, (born October 19th 1944, West Palm Beach, Florida) is a soulful disco singer, most famous for his 1974 hit "Rock Your Baby", released on the independent TK Records label based in Hialeah, Florida. McCrae formed his own singing group, the Jivin' Jets, before joining the United States Navy in 1963. Four years later, he reformed the group, with his wife Gwen joining the line-up, but soon afterwards they decided to work as a duo, recording for Henry Stone's Alston record label. Gwen then won a solo contract, with George acting as her manager as well as doing some singing on sessions and in clubs. He was about to return to college to study law enforcement, when Richard Finch and Harry Wayne Casey of KC and the Sunshine Band invited him to sing the lyrics for a song that they had recorded for the band, but could not reach the high notes that were required for the song. It suited his high-pitched voice to the extent that the song, "Rock Your Baby", became one of the first hits of the disco era in 1974, selling an estimated eleven million copies worldwide[citation needed], topping the charts in the U.S., UK, and over 80 other countries. The song was so successful that Rolling Stone magazine voted it the #1 song of the year, back in 1974. McCrae received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Male R&B Vocalist the following year. Two further single releases, "I Can't Leave You Alone" and "I Get Lifted" also reached the UK Singles Chart Top 10, but he had much less success with follow-ups in the U.S. McCrae also contributed uncredited vocals to KC and the Sunshine Band's hit "Queen of Clubs". McCrae continued to record and tour through the 1980s in his own right, particularly in Europe where he remained popular.
19th Century Technology Robot Chicken
My project for my English 3AP class on 19th Century Technology. My team did this video in the style of the show Robot Chicken so that there are bits and clips put together like a person changing the channel on the TV. Enjoy!
