GAZA — The Samouni family knew they were in danger. They had been calling the Red Cross for two days, they said, begging to be taken out of Zeitoun, a poor area in eastern Gaza City that is considered a stronghold of Hamas. No rescuers came. But at 6 a.m. on Monday, when a missile fired by an Israeli warplane struck the relatives house in which they had taken shelter, there was nowhere to run. Hundreds of members of the clan flooded in to Shifa Hospital, all from Zeitoun, many in shock. Masouda al-Samouni, 20, lost her mother-in-law, her husband and her 10-month-old son. She said she had been preparing food for the baby when the missile struck. He died hungry, she said. Ten days into Israels offensive against Hamas, the militant Islamic group that governs Gaza, the civilian toll was rising alongside that of the militants. As the fighting closed in on the city, Gazans began accusing Israel of deliberately aiming at civilians, to turn them against Hamas. Israel blames Hamas, saying it focuses the battle in the densely populated areas of this narrow, crowded coastal strip and uses residents as shields. We have no intention of harming civilians, said Maj. Avital Leibovich, an Israeli military spokeswoman. Hamas cynically uses civilians by operating in their midst, she said, adding, Sometimes there can be situations where civilians get hurt. CNN confirms Israel broke cease fire first
We have heard so much these few days of people condemning Israel of her violation of the cease fire. A lot of protests have been going on around the world calling the attack against Palestine disproportionate. And there was even the comparison on the casualties among Palestinians and Israelites. I want to be clear that I do not support Israels attack, but I have several questions for all viewers. Looking into mankinds history, in what ways majority of the countries on this earth were formed? By what means was a stronger party able to control the weaker party? Lets look at some examples. How was United States of America formed? Why did US decide to take the action she took against the two cities in Japan during WWII? When we claimed that we are the natives of a nation, are we sure we really are if we dig deeply into the history? How did Islam initially spread across the world? And how many countries have we seen where the natives have lost their lands to the occupants? So, hearing of people criticizing Israel because of the Zionist movement in the late 19th century that led to the conflict today, my question is, if we really want to talk about history, do you think a lot of the wars or actions throughout mankinds history were proportionate and justifiable? Imagine this, if one day, the natives of a nation start attacking the occupants and ask to regain the power to control the nation? Do you think their request is defensible? What I want to say is, looking into our history, there are so many things that are arguable and do not fit the humanitarians standard today, especially when the situation was so much more complicated as that among Israel and Palestine. Also, when we criticize the attack of Israel against Palestine, is it all Israels fault? Are all bombings from Palestians, or actually Hamas justified? If a truce had been agreed upon, was digging a tunnel into Israel justified? Shouldnt Hamas have known of the serious risk of digging the tunnel to her...
