REPRESENTATIVE HASNER’S STATEMENT ON SPONSORSHIP OF BI-PARTISAN RESOLUTION EXPRESSING SOLIDARITY WITH ISRAEL -Florida will be First State in Nation to Express Support for Israel’s Right to Self-Defense- TALLAHASSEE, FL – House Majority Leader Adam Hasner (R-Delray Beach) today announced his sponsorship of a bi-partisan resolution expressing solidarity with the people of Israel and supporting Israel’s right to self-defense from attacks by Hamas. Leader Hasner will be filing the resolution to be heard at the start of the Special Session scheduled to begin on Monday, January 5, 2009. Florida State Senator Ted Deutch (D-Boca Raton) will be filing a similar resolution in the Florida Senate. In conjunction with the filing of the House resolution, Hasner released the following statement: “Since Israel's withdrawal from Gaza in 2005, the thousands of rockets and mortars launched against innocent Israeli civilian targets by the Iranian-sponsored Hamas and Islamic Jihad organizations demonstrate in deed their declared intention of destroying the State of Israel. “In a fully justified defense of its citizens and its democracy, Israel's government has been forced to respond to the terrorist attacks emanating from Gaza in order to change the current realities. IDF Paratroopers Fight Their Way Through Gaza's Streets
Raw Video : An IDF Paratroop unit fight their way thru North Gaza coming up against enemy fire and discovering Hamas weapons,uniforms and bombs an d bomb making plans along the way. In a pinpoint operation conducted by IDF forces in coordination with the ISA this morning, soldiers targeted and identified hitting a number of Islamic Jihad operatives who in recent days launched rockets into Israel: Nasser Halil Hassan Ouda, 21; Muhammad Faez Yadeb Hanedi, 24; Anwar Abed al-Hafiz Abu Salem, 23. The IAF attacked approximately 25 targets, including: Nine weaponry storehouses, most of them hidden under Hamas operatives homes A number of weapons smuggling tunnels Four rocket launching sites A junction rigged with explosives, which operatives had planned to detonate against IDF forces A vehicle carrying a rocket launcher Two Hamas outposts Five cells of armed operatives, some of which fired at IDF forces Ground forces encountered and shot armed gunmen in several different incidents. IAF, Navy and Artillery forces continued to support ground forces operating in Gaza, striking groups of gunmen approaching IDF units, as well as gunmen identified at rocket launching sites. An IDF officer was killed and another soldier lightly wounded this morning during a fire-fight in the central Gaza Strip. The soldiers, from the Kfir infantry brigade, were hit by an anti-tank missile. In another incident, an IDF soldier was severely wounded, another soldier was moderately wounded and five soldiers were lightly wounded when a rocket hit the Eshkol region. The wounded soldiers were evacuated to hospital for further care. The IDF will continue to operate against the terrorist organizations in Gaza and anyone who aids them.

CBN News: U.N. Call for Gaza Cease-Fire Ignored
JERUSALEM, Israel - The U.N. Security Council has called for an immediate cease fire between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The vote was 14 to nothing, with the U.S. abstaining. But the vote has had little impact on the ground in Gaza.

Operation Cast Lead Day 14: Operation Cast Lead Continues in Gaza Strip; Curfew on Judea and Samaria
http://www.israeli-weapons.com 09 January 2009 On Thursday night (Jan. 8), the IAF struck over 50 terrorist targets in the Gaza Strip throughout the night. Among the targets were Hamas naval police outposts; five rocket launching sites, one of which was situated next to a mosque; more than 15 weaponry storage facilities, some of them inside Hamas operatives houses; five weaponry manufacturing sites; an office of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad; a few storage facilities used to store explosives; Hamas outposts and headquarters, and more than five Hamas operative centers. The Israel Navy aided ground forces and operated in the northern and central Gaza Strip throughout the night. In the central Gaza Strip, the naval forces operated in the area of the village Deir El Balah. In the northern Gaza Strip, they hit Hamas launching sites in order to thwart the firing of rockets at Israeli territory. The aerial and naval strikes during the night are part of the support given by the IAF and the IN to the Ground Forces operating in the Gaza Strip throughout Operation Cast Lead. Among the ground forces are the Infantry Corps, the Engineering Corps, the Artillery Corps, the Intelligence Corps, and the Armored Corps. Over the course of these night time operations, two IDF soldiers were lightly wounded and evacuated to hospital to receive medical treatment. Judea and Samaria region under closure After assessing the current situation, the Minister of Defense decided to put the Judea and Samaria region under closure until Sunday (Jan. 11). During the closure, only humanitarian, medical and other exceptional cases, assessed by the Coordination and Liaison District will be considered valid reasons to cross. During the night, IDF forces arrested three wanted terrorists in the Judea and Samaria region; they were taken for questioning by the security forces.

We have heard something today from the International Red Cross that I am not aware of hearing in recent times. The ICRC has criticised Israel for being in breach of international humanitarian law. This after it was discovered that 12 people had been killed in a house in Gaza and their small children had been left to starve. The Red Cross were consistently denied access to the building, despite local knowledge that there were people inside it. And even when eventually Red Cross workers were permitted to venture to the building, they were denied the right to bring an ambulance to take the children, who were too weak to walk. Instead critical time was lost as the Red Cross workers went in search of a donkey cart. http://tinyurl.com/72glnb
