GRRP Landfill Permit Not Denied; Guam EPA Continues Review Of Process
Guam-The Guam Environmental Protection Agency is still considering the permit application from the Guam Resource Recovery Partners to build a landfill in Atantano, even after it was denied several months ago. The Guam EPA Board of Directors voted today to approve the continuation of the permit process, which still requires hydrogeological studies to be done in the Santa Rita area. The meeting also revealed that another conditional permit request was submitted by GRRP yesterday. However, Guam EPA's point of contact Manny Cruz says the agency needs time to review the documents. The bottom line, according to hearing officer John Weisenberger, is that GRRP must fulfill certain requirements in order for its application to be approved. GRRP also stated that Guam EPA administrator Lorilee Crisostomo should recuse herself from the permit process, since her father owns land near the area. Legal counsel Arthur Clark adds that GRRP is seeking a contractor, funding and the completion of the road into Atantano as the company works to get its permit approved.
