Circumcision and Abortion: A Discussion
J1Militans: "Circumcision and Abortion: A Discussion" 1. If abortion is murder, then one cannot put murder and the taking off a piece of tissue as parallel, since one chooses life vs. an amputation, for instance. 2. The Pro-Life cause, although focused on morality, is focused primarily on the life of the baby and the well-fare (physical, emotional and spiritual) of the mother. 3. Abortion is done for the "benefit" of the mother, whereas circumcision for the benefit of the child, at least in a religious level. 4. Abortion permanently terminates a life. Circumcision may terminate that particular tissue, but life is preserved and even his sexuality is intact (plus the lowering risk of contracting STDs). So, in all, I do not see that circumcision and abortion are parallel morally, and that the Pro-Life cause should be hindered because of this. I do not see an inconsistency in that in both cases decisions are made for the baby/child, since in one case the decision is to kill the baby and in the other the decision is because of a religious (and therefore assumed to be good) practice.
