Golconda by Rene Magritte, Menil Collection
Spent Sunday morning in the lovely and quiet neighborhood of the Menil Collection. I am beginning to appreciate Surrealism, especially the works of Rene Magritte. I especially liked one of his paintings with the title "Dominion of Light", which hangs in the wall opposite the Golconda. Coincidentally, the Golconda is the cover of one of the texbooks I used when I was in grad school. (Kathleen T. Alligood, Tim D. Sauer, James A. Yorke. Chaos : an introduction to dynamical systems. Springer. 1996) This museum is smaller than the Museum of Fine Arts, but I liked the neighborhood of the Menil better. It is located in a residential area, with several chapels within walking distance: Rothko, Bryzantine Fresco, and St. Basil at the University of St. Thomas. Plus, admission to the Menil is free.

A Night In With Alan Bennett 5
Alan Bennett from 5th July 1992, introduces an evening of his favourite programmes on BBC2. It starts with 'Looks Like a Chair, Actually It's a Lavatory'. 40 minutes of Bennett talking us through his favourite moments in television history, his belief in the medium's role as an educator and attacks on it at the time by the likes of Margaret Thatcher and Rupert Murdoch. As well as tributes to northern comics like Norman Evans and the actress Joan Sanderson. Bennett then introduces full episodes of his favourite programmes (which I haven't included. I'm sure you can get a hold of Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads or Abigails Party if you try hard enough). They introductions are for: Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads?: Count Down [1973] Play For Today: Abigail's Party [1977] J B - A portrait of Sir John Barbirolli [1965 - documentary] Days At the Beach by Malcolm Mowbray[1981] Later on, Bennett also pays tribute to the 60s and 70s, when British TV viewers were fed "a regular diet" of high quality plays. This is simply wonderful viewing. The picture quality declines a bit towards the end, apologies in advance. Poor signal in the region at the time of recording it seems.
