8/11/2008 - A Miraculous Rescue of a Soul Reclaimed. Tim Burns - PART 3

8/11/2008 - A Miraculous Rescue of a Soul Reclaimed. Tim Burns - Tim Burns life began in a tragic and unique way. His parents moved the family to Cape Cod, Massachusetts to keep the children safe from the streets of Boston. That only worked for a while. Pain and heartache found their way into his life no matter where he lived. And that Tim lived through it is the miracle here. The life and times of Tim Burns as shared in his own words, tells how one man survived growing up in spite of his beginnings. He tells a tale of what it was like to be submerged in a life of tragedy and find his way back to his own soul. - His family on Cape Cod came from the classic New England, Irish Catholic ancestors. The parents of this free spirited man were hard-working people from Boston. His fathers family was one of prosperous society people who fell into near destitute conditions. His mother grew up in a small city outside of Boston. Even Tims birth was traumatic. His parents married three days after he was born. A nurse at the hospital, opposed to the union, called the police. Burns life began with police intervention and it would set the tone for the pattern his life would follow for the next 25 years, including turning twenty-one in prison. Life took a turn towards Hollywood for the man that would "Party Like A Rock Star." Drug deals, strip clubs, thoughts of murder, all of these were parts of the lifestyle Burns lived to tell about. Drug overdoses, trips to jail, living the "Dream" of a multimillion-dollar business and having a "HIT" put out on him all contributed to that light bulb going off over his head. "I could see that this career track was a no-win situation," says Tim Burns in his memoirs. This was the beginning of the decision to stop dealing dope. Today there is another mission in Burns life, one that is centered in the Catholic Church. In 2006, Burns and his wife launched an organization called Fallen Back Catholic Apostolate, Inc. Part of the dream now of this...

This was made by filming with two cameras at once, and then syncing up the footage in Final Cut Express. The footage on the left is from a Samsung MX20, and the footage on the right is from a Sony HDR-SR1. The music is Simone Dinnerstein playing "Lasser: Twelve Variations on a Chorale by Bach: Variation 12."

Tech High to become $76 million data center

Tech High to become $76 million data center

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A new $76 million dollar state of the art data center is coming to Springfield. This will be the state's second data center and will help ensure the state's computer systems are properly secured and maintained. The battle over where in Springfield to put a state computer center has ended. The data center will be located at the former Tech High School on Elliott Street rather than the STCC Technology Park. U.S. Representative Richard Neal told 22News the $76 million center will be staffed 7 days a week on 3 shifts a day. "Well there will be 50 jobs created at the site, three shifts, seven days and seven nights a week going in and out of the building. The construction costs alone will be a welcome infusion of public dollars into the site and being next door to the courthouse or adjacent to the courthouse it creates a new aura of security for people who live in the neighborhood," said Neal. The facility will be the emergency backup center for the state. Congressman Neal says the Data Center will be a combination of the investment in the new federal courthouse and the planned $20 million of improvements in the State Street Corridor. Improvements are also planned for the streets around the data center. The old Tech High School facade will be saved and incorporated into the project. Governor Patrick's decision on Thursday ends a nearly 3 year old tug of war over the placement of the data center.

From Belfast - According to research in the British Journal of Cancer, skin cancer increases the risk of developing additional cancers. In a study of 23,000 people treated for skin cancer, researchers found that the risk of developing a new cancer was double in those with melanoma. The increased risk was for other types of skin cancer, and smoking-related cancer. About 60% of melanomas and 90% of non-melanoma skin cancers come from UV exposure. From Alabama - According to research in the New England Journal of Medicine, early repeat cesareans increase the risk of complications. In a study of over 13,000 women, researchers found that elective repeat cesareans done before 39 weeks of gestation lead to a higher risk of the baby suffering from complications including respiratory distress and requiring admission to the NICU. Between 1996 and 2006, the rate of cesarean births in the U.S. increased from 20% to 31%. And finally, from Atlanta - According to a study published in the CDC's National Vital Statistics Reports, the teen birth rate in the U.S. has risen for the first time in 15 years. According to the study, the birth rate among girls aged 15 to 19 increased by 3% in 2006. The states with the highest rates were Mississippi, New Mexico and Texas at over 60 births per 1,000 girls. New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts had the lowest rates at around 20 per 1,000. For Insidermedicine in 60, I'm Dr. Susan Sharma.
