Helix Missile Defense System
The Helix and Nike Missile Defense System based near San Francisco. During the cold war these missiles were installed as a last line of defense against Russian bombers. They could carry a nuclear war head and be launched to a point 90 miles off the coast where they would explode above the enemy bombers, creating downward pressure and hopefully tearing their wings off.
